The mission of the AIA Design for Aging (DFA) Knowledge Community is to foster design innovation and disseminate knowledge necessary to enhance the built environment and quality of life for an aging society. This includes relevant research on characteristics, planning and costs associated with innovative design for aging. In addition, DFA provides outcome data on the value of these design solutions and environments.

Design for Aging Review Vol. 4

This edition contains more than 20 exemplary projects from the 2004-2005 competition (eighth cycle) that encompass a broad view of facilities designed for senior citizens, including nursing home, dementia care, assisted living, and continuing care retirement communities. This newest edition now includes client commentary, specific project challenges and solutions, and projects that incorporate sustainable design. The book was first published in 2006. The The six merit recipients were featured in the Blueprints for Living newsletter of the AIA Design for Aging.
