It would be hard to imagine anyone saying that 2020 has been just another typical year in any respect. The same was true, as the new year started, when I attended AIA Grassroots in New Orleans. This Event provided opportunities to share knowledge, experiences, and challenges, and network with AIA counterpart leaders from around the country, fueling the success of communities and offering solutions to the most pressing needs facing cities.

One of the most important events AIA hosts for volunteer leaders it was organized virtually August 3–5 for Knowledge Leadership Assembly (KLA) 2020. This event was PA’s leadership opportunity to connect with AIA Knowledge Communities, the AIA Board of Directors, the AIA Strategic Council, member groups, and leaders from allied organizations for learning, knowledge sharing, and networking. PA was virtually represented by three members: Glenn Ryan, AIA, NCARB, OSHA, Stella S. Fiotes, AIA, DBIA, and Dr. Adam Pantelimon, FRIBA. Adam reported to KLA members on “Relevance of climate action and social justice”. He was referencing AIA’s COVID-19 issues in alternative care sites, and alternative homeless shelters initiatives. The PA was/is specifically concerned about addressing capacity, safety & risk challenges for our seniors’ houses/lodges, or hospitals. As well, Adam presented, as case studies addressing COVID-19 disease, a very large warehouse in King County which provided 350 beds, and a temporary Camp Villages in Portland, Oregon.
