Catalyzing change at the 2020 AIA International Region Conference

Now more than ever, we appear to be at a tipping point, the threshold of which has been spreading across the globe. This year’s conference theme, “Catalyzing Change” embraced the opportunity presented by the many challenges society is facing in 2020 and in the years to come. It have been identified potential for growth and ex/change, by imagining, debating and celebrating how architecture can be at the forefront of meaningful change that responds to our current crises of climate action, social justice, and health & well-being.

With nearly 3,000 registrants, the first-ever AIA International Region Virtual Conference has been a resounding success. To our knowledge there hasn’t been an architectural conference (either live or online) with the breadth and depth quite like this one. It is remarkable what we can achieve when we work together as a global team. We hope you found the experience as rewarding as we have.

This 5-day round-the-clock virtual conference spanned the globe to bring up lectures, panel discussions, building tours and more. Conference sessions were hosted by the 7 IR Chapters in Canada, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, the Middle East, Shanghai, and the United Kingdom, as well with contributions from Argentina, Beijing, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Singapore, and Sri Lanka who are some of our many Country Representatives!

The 2020 IR Virtual Conference featured more than 50 events. It would have been impossible to view all of these during the 5-day conference. The good news is that you can view these events on demand! The conference website will remain live until December 31, 2020. The events remain free to view for everyone. AIA members can receive continuing education credits for the on-demand sessions by completing a short quiz.

There are several ways to access the on-demand events. Firstly, you can access the conference Schedule page at:

https://www.aiainternational.org/virtual-conference-schedule

Secondly, you can navigate to specific topics by clicking on these links (these links also appear on the Schedule page):

Keynote Lectures | Women in Architecture & Design | AIA IR | Emerging Professionals | Chapter Events | Design Awards | AIA Canada | AIA Continental Europe | AIA Hong Kong | AIA Japan | AIA Middle East | AIA Shanghai | AIA UK | AIA IR-Latin America | AIA IR-Singapore | Sponsor Events | Building Tours

We urge you to watch as many of the events on-demand as you can. There are some unexpected gems among the events. With nearly 3,000 registrants, the event demonstrates a phenomenal result! Well done AIA IR team!

This conference was an excellent opportunity to track what architecture does and can do around the globe. The free access for all led to record participation and still represents a great opportunity to see the recordings.
