DESCRIPTION:
Hospital design has changed throughout the history. This session will present a retrospective review of hospital design transformation due to a disaster or unforeseen event, such as, the developments of pavilion plan by Florence Nightingale. Various types of disasters or events will be discussed, and the lessons learned, and how those drive the need for the design change. For example, due to the experience of Hurricane Katrina, the design strategies for evacuating the ICU patient from hospital facility has improved. This session will also review the global response in hospital design for COVID-19, and the future challenges and preparedness.
