The Southwest Detention Centre Building a Good News Story for a Regional Detention Centre

11-07-2012 04:21 PM

The South West Detention Centre is a new 140,000 SF Provincial detention centre located on 30 acres in Windsor, Ontario. Housing 315 maximum security beds, the facility has been carefully designed for flexibility, safety and accessibility; the facility is capable of supporting diverse and specific programmatic requirements for both male and female populations. Since the announcement to build this new facility in 2005, the Ministry, Infrastructure Ontario and Facilities Branch of the Ontario Government, have gone to great lengths in communicating and educating the public of the importance of this facility, its need within the community and the important aspects that this facility ‘gives back’ to Windsor. Through this public dialogue, the SWDC represents the new future model for Ontario in delivering much needed community correctional facilities to replace the overcrowded, outdated and decrepit infrastructure that currently exists.
