The mission of the Historic Resources Committee (HRC) is to identify, understand, and preserve architectural heritage, both nationally and internationally. HRC is engaged in promoting the role of the historic architect within the profession through the development of information and knowledge among members, allied professional organizations, and the public.

Architects in Historic Preservation: The Formal Role of the AIA, 1890-1990

This report was produced in celebration of the HRC centennial and details the history of historic preservation at AIA. AIA, founded in in 1857 as a professional society, has maintained a system of national committees to reflect the interests of its constituency as well as to promote the profession of architecture to non-architects.
