Neighbourhood Justice Centre, Melbourne Australia

10-26-2021 10:49 AM

Community justice centres are developing worldwide. The Neighbourhood Justice Centre (NJC) located in Melbourne Australia, was designed, and built to meet the needs of the local community first and foremost. The centre was developed with extensive community consultation.  As an International Mentor Community Court, the NJC consults worldwide on community justice centres and their design, including with architecture firms in Canada.

Community justice centres are place-based centres that often have a court inside. They are located in places with high crime rates and high levels of social disadvantage.  In this talk you will hear from a panel of NJC experts, General Manager Rachel Powning, Client Services Team Manager Dr Cameron Wallace and Neighbourhood Justice Officer Kwan Li, facilitated by Education Manager Alycia Ashcroft. The panel will discuss how the centre has a focus on crime prevention.
