The Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) is a Knowledge Community of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We are a large and active group of over 10,000 architects and allied professionals concerned with the quality and design of all types of educational, cultural, and recreational facilities that promote lifelong learning in safe, welcoming and equitable environments. The CAE’s mission is to foster innovative and collaborative design of educational facilities and to heighten public awareness on the importance of learning environments.
21st Century Learning Environments blur the boundary between fun, play, wonder and information access. Melding examples from museums, schools, hospitals and public gardens, this webinar looks at multi sensory environments that are tuned to contemporary cultural sustainability practices. Examples will be shared that shift learning from secondary to primary sources, show case multi sensory experiential out door environments, connect institutional grounds (and roofs!) to local communities, demonstrate educational wayfinding, environmental navigation and encourage landscapes for all learning styles and ages.
This CAE webinar was recorded on 30 November 2011. The handout and bibliography are provided below.
