The Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) is a Knowledge Community of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We are a large and active group of over 10,000 architects and allied professionals concerned with the quality and design of all types of educational, cultural, and recreational facilities that promote lifelong learning in safe, welcoming and equitable environments. The CAE’s mission is to foster innovative and collaborative design of educational facilities and to heighten public awareness on the importance of learning environments.
As designers focused on designing equitable and resilient educational spaces, this session explores how design engages with water, one of earth’s precious resources: water conservation and protection of water quality at the building, campus and regional scales; resilient design responses to rainfall, storms, flood and inundation; design that offers teachable moments about water as resource and mutable element; strategies that promote a sense of discovery and delight about water; fostering a relationship between designers, users and operators for project performance. A panel of design experts at different scales will share experiences and projects.Presenters:Phoebe Crisman, AIA, UVA, Director of Global Environments + Sustainability Major https://www.arch.virginia.edu/people/phoebe-crismanErin English, PE, LEED AP, Practice Leader, Biohabitatshttps://www.biohabitats.com/about-us/team/Ole Schrøder, Partner at TREDJE NATUR/THIRD NATURE, a Copenhagen-based multi-disciplinary design firm https://www.tredjenatur.dk/
