Who we are

The Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) is a Knowledge Community of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We are a large and active group of over 10,000 architects and allied professionals concerned with the quality and design of all types of educational, cultural, and recreational facilities that promote lifelong learning in safe, welcoming and equitable environments. The CAE’s mission is to foster innovative and collaborative design of educational facilities and to heighten public awareness on the importance of learning environments.

On Thursday July 2nd, the CAE Research ThinkTank hosted it's fourth virtual conversation, Changing the Conversation in Design: Race, Equity, Bias. The featured speakers were Lesley-Ann Noel, PhD, Professor of Practice in Design Thinking and Associate Director, Design Thinking for Social Impact at the Phyllis M. Taylor Center for Social Innovation and Design Thinking at Tulane University and George Aye, Co-founder of Greater Good Studio in Chicago. The conversation touched on structures of power and ways to include a multiplicity of voices and experiences in design work.
