Who we are

The Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) is a Knowledge Community of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We are a large and active group of over 10,000 architects and allied professionals concerned with the quality and design of all types of educational, cultural, and recreational facilities that promote lifelong learning in safe, welcoming and equitable environments. The CAE’s mission is to foster innovative and collaborative design of educational facilities and to heighten public awareness on the importance of learning environments.

Diana Studer is an architectural thesis student registered in the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada Syllabus program.
Prior to beginning the program in 2010, she completed her Architectural and Building Engineering Technology Diploma at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

Since 2003, she has worked in several architectural firms focusing on commercial, office, retail, multi-unit and mixed use residential and assembly buildings.
Currently, she is focusing her work experience on educational building with a specialty in children's design.

In 2016, she won the Michael Evamy Memorial Scholarship to help fund research and training in revitalizing urban spaces through child-centered design.

Her research is focused on understanding how cities and urban spaces can adapt to include and encourage families to live in urban centers by considering the needs of children.
Diana presented her research work “Put Play to Work: Engaging Children in the Design Process through Play-Based Charettes.”
