AAH1708: Scripps Barbey Family Emergency and Trauma Center: A Partnership in Design for the Future

07-27-2017 03:31 PM

This webinar is sponsored by the Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) on September 19, 2017 from 2–3pm ET. Earn 1.0 AIA LU/HSW.

As part of the Scripps Prebys Cardiovascular Institute in La Jolla, a brand new emergency department was planned on the first floor of this new patient tower. However, the master planning effort guided the decision to shell the space until the new patient tower was complete in 2015 in order to minimize disruption to emergency services and the level II trauma unit. Through a collaborative planning and design process which focused on the expanding needs of the department, the Scripps Barbey Family Emergency and Trauma Center successfully delivers quality healthcare for increasing patient volumes while anticipating future growth and technology, all within an operational facility.

Learning objectives

After participating in this webinar attendees will be equipped to:

1. Identify how an integrated project team established the success of the emergency department project before it even began. 2. Understand how a collaborative design process from the visioning session through construction allowed for flexibility in design and consideration for future growth. 3. Understand how emergency department drivers unique to this health system facility were identified and met. 4. Learn how the facility shifted their operational mindset which inspired the planning and design for the new emergency department.

The PowerPoint and PDF versions of the presentation and the final Q&A document are available below for your viewing.
