Who we are

The Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) is a Knowledge Community of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We are a large and active group of over 10,000 architects and allied professionals concerned with the quality and design of all types of educational, cultural, and recreational facilities that promote lifelong learning in safe, welcoming and equitable environments. The CAE’s mission is to foster innovative and collaborative design of educational facilities and to heighten public awareness on the importance of learning environments.

  

2014 Spring Conference Scholarship Recipients and Their Blog Posts

Elaine Chan, Assoc. AIA, is a marketing coordinator for Kwan Henmi Architecture and Planning in San Francisco where she has extensive experience in website design and the use of social media. A graduate of the University of California Berkeley, her work has brought her in contact with a wide variety of professional collaborators and clients. She is particularly interested in extending this interconnectedness through the use of new technologies. Wesley Wong, Assoc. AIA, is the Associate Director Designate of AIA San Francisco. A graduate of University of California, Berkeley, he is currently a designer at Joseph Chow and Associates, as well as the Chair of the Bay Area Young Architects, the Emerging Professionals Committee of AIASF. This EPC is one of the largest in the AIA as a result of his extensive and successful use of social media. Ann Neeriemer AIA, LEED AP has a passion for place-making and community based design which she has utilized on a variety of project types including master and campus planning, mixed-use developments, and primary and secondary education facilities. A licensed architect in Washington, DC, she has worked on many projects serving inner-city youth, bringing the latest design research and education trends to an often underserved population. Ann is also the social media and outreach coordinator for the AIA|DC chapter of CAE, boosting the committees outreach within the nation’s capital. Nageen Ettefagh, is the AIAS Chapter President at the California State Polytechnic University of Pomona, where she is a fifth-year architecture student. Under her leadership as Social Media Director, this chapter has become the largest in the nation. She has participated in the 2013 Coalition for Adequate School Housing design competition and has been an intern at Aedis Architects, which specializes in k-12 architecture. She is a member of Tau Sigma Delta honor society and volunteers in social media marketing for the Neutra VDL Research house. Anushri Vachhani, is a fifth-year architecture student at California State Polytechnic University of Pomona where she is the Vice President of the AIAS Chapter. She has been on the Dean’s List for academic achievement, serves as a student member of the AIAIC, is the manager of a wide variety of student publications and newsletters, and has volunteered her time as a docent at the Neutra VDL Research House. As well, she has encouraged the social media connections among her classmates through the initiation of a Tumblr page and regular Facebook postings.
