Bio

DESIGN APPROACH The character of our buildings is as diverse as the individuals they house and the surroundings in which they are located. We are interested in suiting each design to its geographical and community context. Our strong interest is to envision the most common composition, the most simple solution for our client. We believe that people make natural associations with form, composition and light. Design is a very intuitive and metaphorical process, like planting a garden: we study the soil, the sun, the water and what exists before conceiving a design that is well suited to the conditions. Design a space appropriate to the client's needs, make it as beautiful as possible and practice economy and energy efficiency where needed as possible. OFFICE INFORMATION The office is currently composed of the principal architect and interns. Thomas Downey Limited Engineers is our consulting engineer. The number of residences we do varies and we have no minimum project size. Our firm is small enough that personal attention is given to each project. We expect the quality of any given residential project to be high; maintaining a significant overview of each project during construction. Our office team is knowledgeable and flexible in both architectural design and design-build situations. We determine the best fee structure with the client - a percentage of the construction cost or a charge for our time and expenses - or combine these approaches for different types of work. INTERIORS We consider the interior design to be integral to the architecture. The design of the cabinets, built-in seating, display cases, the selection of architectural elements such as case work, flooring, carpets and wall coverings are part of the complete project. We don't make great distinctions between interior and architectural design. The cumulative effort is the creation of the project. . . . .
