Mr. Barkley, a retired architect, maintained a distinguished career as a practicing architect, a real estate developer of small commercial projects in the City of Falls Church, as a volunteer in community service, and as a state and national leader of the American Institute of Architects.
SERVICES
Architectural work performed by Mr. Barkley over his 50 years in private practice included site analysis and selection, financial feasibility study, zoning and building analysis, site planning, landscape design, space planning, building design and schematics, preparation of construction documents, bid negotiations, cost control, construction contract administration, construction loan inspections, preparation of graphic and promotional materials, advertising, public presentations, and expert witness testimony.
A believer in establishing cooperative partnerships, Mr. Barkley personally directed the course of many building design and construction projects in which the owner, architect, and contractor act as a team united to achieve the timely, cost effective and mutually rewarding completion of a project. In many instances, Mr. Barkley’s services went beyond the traditional architect’s services to include advice and support on site selection, financing, marketing and leasing.
Mr. Barkley continues his volunteer service to the AIA and as an architectural consultant.
