I entered the world of buildings as a union carpenter working heavy construction. Soon after I attended trade school and began a long career as a furniture maker and custom craftsman, a position I still enjoy despite spending most of time now in design and project management. In the 90s I learned, then taught CAD, and immediately gravitated to 3D design. CAD opened the door to architecture jobs; architecture opened my eyes to broader possibilities for design and more intelligent uses for computers in the design industry. That led me to SketchUp, ArchiCAD and Graphisoft's BIMcloud.
Being a lifetime environmentalist and wilderness lover my primary professional goal is to advance sustainability in the built environment. I have extensively studied a broad range of green building strategies and synergies. I completed the Sustainable Building Advisor program and attend numerous workshops and seminars through the AIA, the NW EcoBuilding Guild, and Passive House NW. I love building science and have had the pleasure to work on a few Passive House projects. I'm currently investigating formal Passive House training. I have done my share of freelance work but prefer the tribe. As a team player who likes to collaborate, I believe that whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
