Metamorphosis of Service Delivery Inside Hospital Planning: Logistics Automation Using Robotics & AI

    Description:

Owners and planners are seeking innovative ways to transform service delivery to address worldwide challenges such as declining birth rates, geopolitical issues, employee safety, and natural disasters. We will specifically address the five Ds (Dirty, Dull, Dangerous, Difficult and Dear) as key qualifiers to consider logistics automation. In this session, we will discuss a variety of decision factors such as feasibility, practicality, safety considerations, space requirements, & engineering considerations for various automation alternatives within different operating environments. Business case evaluation being one of the first steps in understanding the overall decision factors that will help all parties involved understand how it impacts their function. This seminar will go over the overall evaluation process including information gathering, user input, cultural and operational factors. Part of our case studies will involve presentation of empirical data driving the decision process. Considering and implementing logistics automation presents challenges in project planning, space programming and regulatory compliance. We will present practical solutions that have been tried and tested in Healthcare Facilities Planning arena

Hosted by the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health an AIA Knowledge Community.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Identify the need for Logistics Automation, review viable options, and understand business case planning factors including planning challenges such as impact on elevator capacity, interstitial spaces & service corridor widths.
    • Review aspects of redundant safety features for employee safety, patient safety, and infrastructure safety.
    • Review device functionality during a fire emergency and review how human errors can be reduced.
    • Review how human exposure to HAIs can be reduced and understand the current regulatory environment surrounding devices.
