Who we are

The Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) is a Knowledge Community of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We are a large and active group of over 10,000 architects and allied professionals concerned with the quality and design of all types of educational, cultural, and recreational facilities that promote lifelong learning in safe, welcoming and equitable environments. The CAE’s mission is to foster innovative and collaborative design of educational facilities and to heighten public awareness on the importance of learning environments.

  

  • 1.  Funding begins through Renew America's Schools program

    The Department of Energy released a notice of funding on 11/30 for the Renew America's Schools program. The details are below, and also in this one-page summary document. DOE is also hosting an informational webinar on Dec. 6. You can register here for that webinar.

     

    Key Dates

    Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) Issue Date: November 30, 2022.

    Informational Webinar: December 6, 2022 (register here)

    Concept Papers Due Date: January 26, 2023

    Application Due Date: April 21, 2023

    Total Funding: $80 million

    Award Ceiling: $15 million

    Award Floor: $500,000

    ---------

    Focus Areas: DOE will encourage eligible applicants to consider projects that:

    • Enable replicable and scalable impacts;
    • Create innovative, sustaining partnerships;
    • Leverage funding and economies of scale;
    • Focus on disadvantaged communities;
    • Improve student, teacher, and occupant health;
    • Enrich learning and growth;
    • Assist schools that serve as community assets (e.g., neighborhood cooling centers);

    Eligible applicants

      • Local Educational Agency (LEA) – must be lead entity, and one or more of the following:
        • Schools;
        • Nonprofit organizations "that have knowledge and capacity to partner and assist with energy improvements;"
        • For-profit organizations "that have knowledge and capacity to partner and assist with energy improvements;"
        • Community Partners "that have knowledge and capacity to partner and assist with energy improvements."

    The Department of Education has posted notice inviting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2023 for the Supporting America's School Infrastructure (SASI) Grant Program. For Applications visit: Federal Register :: Applications for New Awards; Supporting America's School Infrastructure Grant Program

    Purpose of Program: The purpose of this program is to increase the capacity of States to support high-need local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools in leveraging other available Federal, State, and local resources to improve school facilities and environments through public school infrastructure improvements to ensure that their public school facilities are safe, healthy, sustainable, and equitable learning environments for all students.

    Applications Available: June 5, 2023.

    Deadline for Transmittal of Applications: August 7, 2023.

    Deadline for Intergovernmental Review: October 6, 2023.
