  • Codes Network Webinar Dec. 15: Why Architects Should Pay Big Attention to Tiny Houses

    Thursday, December 15, 2016 | 2:00pm– 3:00pm EST

    Register here: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/8215021297309875713

Earn 1.0 AIA Health, Safety, Welfare (HSW) Learning Units (LUs) with this intermediate-level course

Tiny houses are more than just houses built on trailers. Building codes and zoning ordinances are evolving to allow tiny houses in urban areas so it’s time we take a serious look at the potential of this housing type. We’ll define the three types of tiny houses and review the latest ICC building code proposals to address tiny houses. This will help AIA members focused on housing understand why and how they may provide services for owners interested in tiny houses.

    Learning Objectives:
    1) Define the three types of tiny houses.
    2) Explain why and how AIA members focused on housing may provider services for tiny houses.
    3) Demonstrate the potential for tiny houses in development and increasing density of cities.
    4) Identify building code issues related to tiny houses.

  • 2017 Intersections Symposium Call for Abstracts

Intersections Between the Academy and Practice:
COLLABORATION: TECHNOLOGY . RESEARCH . PRACTICE
    April 26, 2017 | Orlando, FL
    Co-Chairs:

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) are pleased to announce a partnership dedicated to the integration of education, research and practice of technologies at the 2017 AIA National Convention in Orlando. This symposium will focus on COLLABORATION. New technology and ways of working are helping to break down barriers between the different players in the construction process. Industry leaders already do a great deal to encourage collaboration among their teams, providing vision, collaboration-conducive work environments, collaboration technology, and by removing obstacles. Collaboration also happens outside the traditional AEC industry, between architects and cognitive scientists, between architects and community organizers, etc.

    CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Authors should prepare 500-words abstracts, with up to 3 supporting images, for blind peer review. Prospective papers should address one of these topics:
    Collaboration-Technology
New technology and ways of working that help to break down barriers between the different players in and outside the construction process.

    Collaboration-Interdisciplinary Research
The collaborative research produces new knowledge.

    Collaboration-Practice
That will increase efficiency and revolutions in the industry business model.

    Collaboration-Open

Educators, Practitioners, Researchers and Students are all encouraged to submit. There will be a limited number of paper presentations. Submissions will be blind peer-reviewed. Select abstracts will be invited to submit a final paper, which must be original, unpublished material (60% new content). The papers of authors who attend the conference will be published in the Symposium Proceedings.
