Calculating embodied carbon in historic buildings

  • 1.  Calculating embodied carbon in historic buildings

    Dear Mr. McLaren,

I am an architect and urban planner in NYC. Currently I am working on an environmental argument in protest of the demolition of historic fabric around the Penn Station in NYC as part of the new development project.

I am working with the total square footage of the existing buildings, many were built in early 1900s, including by Mckim, Mead and White. I will not have time, scope doesn't warrant, to do a detailed material take off. A simple square foot value would be just great to apply.

    Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I thank you for your time.
