For the latest episode of the Design the Future podcast, Lindsay Baker and I had a fantastic, wide-ranging conversation with Julie Hiromoto, FAIA, who is a Principal at HKS, Inc. and the firm's Director of Integration. Julie recently attended the UN's #COP26 (as part of the AIA delegation). She stresses the value of asking questions and being open to learning through different roles.

Julie notes that the built environment community has finally gotten governments and the public to recognize that buildings are a part of climate action, and she asks: "What are we going to do with the leadership platform? It's time to start sprinting. We know that collectively we can do amazing things. Can we translate that to our carbon, resilience, wellbeing, and equity work?"

Julie is a big believer in research and coalitions, and has always engaged with numerous organizations, including The American Institute of Architects (AIA), Urban Land Institute, International Living Future Institute, International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), and the Climate Reality Project, to name a few.
