Who we are

The mission of the AIA Design for Aging (DFA) Knowledge Community is to foster design innovation and disseminate knowledge necessary to enhance the built environment and quality of life for an aging society. This includes relevant research on characteristics, planning and costs associated with innovative design for aging. In addition, DFA provides outcome data on the value of these design solutions and environments.


The Design for Seniors Fellowship is open and accepting applications until November 15! This is for young professionals in an Undergraduate or Graduate study within an Architecture Program or aging focused program.  Learn more >

  • 1.  DFAR Submittals due Tuesday!

    ​Friendly reminder that submittals for the Design for Aging Review (DFAR) awards are due this coming Tuesday, July 16! The DFAR includes a juried exhibition, book, access to digital content, and educational programs that showcase communities that advance senior living design.
