    DESCRIPTION:

The new $550 million SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital marked a transition from an existing out-of-date hospital with narrow hallways and centralized nursing units to a state-of-the art academic medical hospital design. During the planning phase, the design team looked at the hospital system's existing care models and determined the standard  inpatient unit design – even with a decentralized nursing unit - was not the right fit. The presenters will share the differences between different models evaluated, lessons learned from mockups as well as anecdotal feedback from clinical staff and patients after being in operation since September 1st.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After participating in this webinar attendees will:

    1. Discuss the differences between how community hospital and academic medical centers function in the nursing unit.
    2. Compare inpatient room design element pros and cons.
    3. Understand the differences in the types of patients cared for in academic medical centers versus community hospitals.
    4. Learn about the technology incorporated at a state-of-the-art academic medical center inpatient unit.
