The Committee on the Environment (COTE®) is an AIA Knowledge Community working for architects, allied professionals, and the public to achieve climate action and climate justice through design. We believe that design excellence is the foundation of a healthy, sustainable, and equitable future. Our work promotes design strategies that empower all AIA members to realize the best social and environmental outcomes with the clients and the communities they serve.

American Alliance of Museums recognizes sustainability achievements

    It's great to see awards recognizing sustainability -- not just as integral to design excellence, as AIA is increasingly doing, but also as part of organizational and programming efforts.

    The American Alliance of Museums (AAM) recently announced the 2020 winners of its Sustainability Excellence Awards, which recognizes sustainability efforts in facilities, programming, and exhibits at museum institutions of all scales.

    Fun fact: This year's jury chair was Joyce S. Lee, FAIA, who served as chair of AIA COTE in 2002.

    Winners include the Spurlock Museum of World Cultures, the National Nordic Museum, the Mystic Seaport Museum, and the Phipps Cnservatory and Botanical Gardens.
