Who we are

The Committee on the Environment (COTE®) is an AIA Knowledge Community working for architects, allied professionals, and the public to achieve climate action and climate justice through design. We believe that design excellence is the foundation of a healthy, sustainable, and equitable future. Our work promotes design strategies that empower all AIA members to realize the best social and environmental outcomes with the clients and the communities they serve.

By Friday of this week, we invite you to capture a brief (<1 minute) video message on your phone and then post it on your preferred social media platform -- Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook -- plus #ArchGrad20.

You may have noticed some AIA leader messages already, here are Twitter posts from CEO Robert Ivy

https://twitter.com/JaneFredArch/status/1262802000783253506?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noopener">President Jane Frederick; https://twitter.com/egrfaia/status/1262834481859264514?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Board Member Emily Grandstaff RiceNow we want other AIA members to raise their voices to encourage the next generation!

What to say? Whatever personal encouragement you have to offer … including, perhaps, how much the architectural community needs them as we weather the pandemic and recession and make #designleadesrhip the driving force of #climateaction. Remind them, as Emily did, that they can change the world!

We need the next generation of architects more than ever, and we need to encourage them and invite them into our networks now. If you are a member of a local COTE committee or another group to which you can invite new grads to join in for virtual meetings -- please do. Or invite them to join a discussion within your firm.

Bonus: If a few (or more!) people in your firm record messages, consider asking your firm's communications lead to bundle and post as a group.

Please record your message and share by Friday!
