JOIN COTE: Apply this spring for the national Leadership Group

If you have been in the COTE community for a while, or are new to our tent, perhaps it’s time to think about applying to the national Leadership Group of COTE, an AIA Knowledge Community (since 1990).

What does the COTE Leadership Group do?

This group of 12 people shape and shepherd tend to COTE’s flagship programs, the COTE Top Ten Awards (since 1997) and the AIA/ACSA COTE Top Ten for Students Competition … as well as guiding knowledge development, collaborating with other climate groups at AIA (2030 Working Group, materials groups, the Resilience and Adaptation Group, and more). They are doing work on Climate Action / Climate Justice, and they weigh in on Advocacy. And they are underpinned by the brilliant COTE community, including the 60 COTE chapters at state and local AIA chapters/components around the country. And they interact with national AIA staff, member groups, Board Committees, and others around key issues relating to AIA, climate action, and design excellence. This will be critically important in the coming months and years as the next Strategic Plan takes shape.

By late May, this website will be accepting applications for the COTE Leadership Group and other leadership groups for AIA Knowledge Communities and membership groups. The deadline for applications is expected to be open for one month (likely until late June).

You can also apply at that site to get your name on a list to be a juror on the COTE Top Ten Awards (for 2026 and beyond), as well as other juries.

If you have questions about volunteering with COTE’s Leadership Group, you can send those to cote@aia.org or contact any of the current group of COTE Leadership Group members. You can see that full list here. Or drop me a line; I have served in that capacity in the past and I’m always game to talk about COTE.
