Seeking Examples: Adaptive Reuse Projects

By Jenine S. Kotob AIA posted 06-06-2018 11:54

Hi all,

I'm hoping the individuals on this blog can share some precedent examples of adaptive reuse projects of former non-academic buildings into learning environments. These can be in either urban or suburban areas, small or large, national or international, etc.

Thank you!

I designed a school in Culver City CA, Park Century School, which was a great example of Adaptive Re-use, an electronics warehouse converted to a K-8 school for students with learning disabilities.  If you wish the whole story or photos, let me know if I can help.

I am curious what are these used for?  I have done alot of adaptive reuse for education in San Francisco and the surrounding bay area.

This is both adaptive reuse and new build.  Let me know if I can help further.

Jenine,

A great example in Texas is the Austin Community College Highland Campus.  It was formally a mall in the center of town.  It's now one of the most innovate ACC campuses - lots of transparency, a learning stair, and innovation lab.  I teach in the Arch Department and we're excited to move in when Phase II is complete.

Here are some links to the architect's pages.
