During my time with Hollis + Miller Architects, I have had the privilege to work side-by-side with several colleges and universities, striving to translate the unique mission and values of each into promising master plans mapping the future of their institutions. In addition to master plans, my studio focuses on student life projects. The environments we design create the backdrop for student experiences in a time of heightened development and awareness of self. Every campus culture has unique qualities that set it apart from the rest. I enjoy the prospect of discovering who they are and maximizing the impact each intervention (whether programmatic or tangible construction) can have on their campus. Every chance to engage with these clients (including students) is a thrilling opportunity to empower the students to be great.
I am an ambitious learner with an intent to maximize the effect educational design can have on student wellness, achievement, retention, recruitment, and experience. This groundwork is critical to understand and internalize as an industry as we collaborate with educators and design the future of education.
As of this April 2015, I am a participating member of the AIA CAE Sub-Committee for Higher Education. We meet monthly to connect with the fellow members and leading voices of our industry. The AIA has great potential to capitalize on its brand and position itself as a vibrant resource to education leaders. I intend to be a part of it. I look forward to more exposure, context, and insight on how we can bridge the gap from K-12 to higher, life-long learning.
