Who we are

The Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) is a Knowledge Community of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We are a large and active group of over 10,000 architects and allied professionals concerned with the quality and design of all types of educational, cultural, and recreational facilities that promote lifelong learning in safe, welcoming and equitable environments. The CAE’s mission is to foster innovative and collaborative design of educational facilities and to heighten public awareness on the importance of learning environments.

As the Marketing Coordinator for Kwan Henmi Architecture & Planning in San Francisco, I am exposed to civic, transportation, education, housing, and commercial projects. CurrentlyI am an active member of the Society for Marketing Professionals Services (SMPS), Asian American Architects and Engineers (AAAE), and CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women, and American Institute of Architects San Francisco (AIASF).

My UC Berkeley undergraduate experience exposed me to a boundless world of exploration and promoted an open dialogue of multidisciplinary studies. I approached with my schedule with excitable zeal, following my natural instinct to take classes like Chinese Land & Culture, Cultural History of Advertising, Policymaking in Environmental Science, and Sustainable Landscapes & Cities.  My strong front has always been communication, serving as a mediator in my community through translation, coordinating city-wide events, and being a liaison between different professional groups. I am working towards further developing my marketing skill set, strengthening my linguistic core, and deepening my architectural knowledge. Ultimately, I aspire to promote architecture on a global scale.

I still find myself in complete awe of the architecture field and experience elation in discovering more of the built environment’s intricacy. In working for Kwan Henmi, I learned that architecture spreads across several professional fields and remains a vital thread that connects the design profession. I have had the pleasure of being exposed to brokers, developers, engineers, and international investors. An architecture firm is a whirlwind of activity, the midpoint in which all these entities become interconnected. I understand that the role of the marketing coordinator is integral in pushing new technologies, introducing refreshing approaches taken from disciplines like advertising, sales, and public relations. Recently, I redesigned the website, revamped our marketing materials, and set out to fortify the firm’s social presence. In attending the AIA CAE Conference in Barcelona, I will be returning with valuable knowledge to my firm and bringing my own perspective to the conference.
