Greetings readers,

We hope you have enjoyed our themed editions brought to you by your peers. This edition has three feature articles that encompass the theme of "New Innovations in Senior Living Design."

We are now preparing for our final edition of Blueprints for Senior Living for the year in December. The theme is "After the Architect Leaves...the Good, Bad, and the Ugly," and we are looking for articles that highlight design elements that worked better than expected or perhaps didn't pan out at all. Please send the title of your proposed article and a short paragraph describing its contents to DFA@aia.org by November 11, 2016. Articles should be original submissions and 200-800 words in length. You are also highly encouraged to include pictures if they are available.

The Design for Aging (DFA) advisory group hopes to see you at the 2016 LeadingAge annual conference and expo in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 30-November 2nd. The following information highlights where, when and how you can engage with us:

Post-Occupancy Evaluation: Scheduled for October 31, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. in room 128c. Immediately following the presentation, we invite you to join us for a complimentary snack and drink reception adjacent in room 128c from 5-6pm.

Design Hub: A special display panel including a video panel to loop images from recent competition award winners, organized by trends, and comfortable seating with receptacles to plug in phones located close to registration.

Design Trend dialogue: Sessions including (5) 30-minute discussions on design trends. The first session will be Sunday, October 30th at 3:15 p.m., the others will be Monday, October 31 and Tuesday, November 1 at 10 am and 3:30 pm both days. The five sessions will focus on trends identified in our upcoming Design for Aging Review book, which are:

  • Next Generation Household Model
  • Community Connections, Urban Locations, and Mixed Use Functions
  • Successful Renovations and Repositioning
  • Affordable Housing that Breaks the Mold

Be one of the first to purchase the new Design for Aging Review (DFAR) 13 book which will be available at the LeadingAge Design Hub. This 25th anniversary year publication will illustrate the most recent ideas in design for aging.

Stay tuned for the latest 2016 LeadingAge annual conference and expo schedule for final updates. We look forward to seeing you in Indianapolis!

Lastly, we are always looking for new members to join our advisory group. There are several opportunities to get involved, particularly within the communications, outreach, next generation, components and funding committees. Membership in the advisory group is a five-year commitment and would require from five to 20 hours of dedicated and involved time per month. In the 5th year of membership, the most senior group member rotates into the position of Chair.

We are a committed and active group that supports each other and enjoys working together. If you are interested in joining the DFA advisory group, please submit a letter of interest to DFA@aia.org.

Sincerely,
