You're Invited to Attend the First Conference on Preservation and Stewardship of Historic Places, in Yellowstone National Park, September 30 - October 2, 2014 This conference is for those historic and rustic architecture practitioners who are looking to build new skills and network with professionals and craftsman in the field. The conference will provide opportunities to learn and exchange ideas through demonstrations, classroom presentations hands-on experiences and facilitated dialog. Presentations will cover topics such as: conducting annual inspections; assessing the condition of rustic buildings; choosing a qualified engineer and/or consultant; developing log, wood, or masonry preservation treatments and implementing treatment and maintenance plans. The Old Faithful site is also an appropriate setting for discussions about the effects of environmental factors on rustic architecture, such as winter snow loads; safety hazards for guests and contractors during the work; and how to select and source sustainable preservation alternatives. Participants can earn up to 16 AIA CEU continuing education credits. Conference registration fee is $425 per person. However, those registering on or before August 31, will receive a special discounted Early Bird rate of $395. Lodging is available at several in-park hotels, including the historic Old Faithful Inn, and should be reserved as soon as possible to ensure availability. Conference sessions will be held in the Old Faithful Lodge Recreation Hall, near the Inn and adjacent to the world-famous geyser. For more information on the conference, registration and in-park lodging, please visit online or call 406-457-2822. The Conference on Preservation and Stewardship of Historic Places is presented by a partnership between National Park Service, Xanterra Parks & Resorts, and the Montana Preservation Alliance.
