The Committee on Design (COD) was founded to promote design excellence among members of the AIA, the broader design community, and the public at large, both nationally and internationally.
This year COD will offer two domestic design conferences investigating The Authenticity of Place. The first conference was held in New Orleans, LA. View the short video of the venue tours. The second will take place in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, September 20-24, 2023.
The Crafting The Future teaser continues with some highlights of sights in Kanazawa to be visited during part 2 of the conference. A castle town like Tokyo, Kanazawa is divided into distinct neighborhoods. The area of the samurai housing, the eastern tea/entertainment district and the castle area are represented in the slideshow as well as the distinctive Kanazawa townhouses. In addition, a few sketches of the rural village of Shirakawa-Go give an idea as to what awaits tour attendees as they experience venacular architecture of the Edo period. Buildings include: 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Seisonkaku Villa, Kenroku-en Garden, Yugao-tei Tea House, Higashi Chaya Townhouses, Shima Tea House, Hakuza Tea House, Gassho style Minka.
