HABS - Its Relevance to Architectural Practice Today

10-07-2013 02:43 PM

Building on the AIA-HRC’s long standing relationship with the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), the HRC completed a study on HABS and Its Relevance to the Architectural Profession. This study looked closely at the collection, conducted an extensive survey to HRC members, and researched how HABS can better service our profession.

I find the report useful in getting the facts to the profession. Yet I do not know how much it is distributed. Is it only to the HRC members or the full AIA membership?
Having spent 25 summers as a supervisor of HABS teams, I understand some of the dilema that is there. As a plus I have always beleived that spending a summer with a HABS recording team is an ectremely valuabe experienc for a student of architecture. they are the future and wil most likely be engages in restoring, rehabilitating or adding-on to historic buildings.
I find one oversight in the report and that is crediting the drawings to the delineator as is requested by the Library of Congress.
I have been a long time corresponding member of HRC.
