INGUAT, the Guatemalan National Tourism Institute, will launch an international public bid for the feasibility study and elaboration of a master plan to build a Convention District.
One of the requirements for interested parties will be to have designed and built a minimum of ten convention centers in the Western Hemisphere.
INGUAT expects participants to consider environmental, urban, transit, and construction aspects that should match Guatemala City’s Territorial Order Plan coordinated by the Municipality of Guatemala.
The Convention District project consists of renovating and upgrading a current industrial park located in Guatemala City. The industrial park currently has a couple open air spaces and several warehouse-type convention spaces where fairs are held. Upgrades will include incorporating international brands of hotel chains, restaurants, shopping outlets, and a state of the art convention area capable of hosting international events. The amount of the project is not available yet.
The public bid is expected to be launched within the next 6 weeks.
