When a project is in the construction phase, and questions or issues come up…who knows anymore? Depending on whom you ask on the team, the answer will be different. The expectations of the parties have become reality; proper or not. Who reads specs anymore…or looks at the plans? Learning Objectives Participants will analyze the early signs or trouble (red flags) to watch for during the construction phase. Evaluation of appropriate proactive and reactive measures will be summarized as well as how to apply them. Measurements of success/failure will be defined. Alternative outcomes will be identified, based on behavior modification. Transformation of construction phase actions will be recognized; building a unified team spirit, protecting the Architect and limiting exposure.

Report AIA Continuing Education

Attendees will earn 1.0 LUs. A link to a survey will be provided both at the end of the webinar and in a follow-up email sent one hour after the end of the webinar. All attendees at each site submit one form: 1) page one: webinar survey and 2) page two: CES report form. The survey must be completed in order to receive credit. AIA members and IDP record holders will have their credit recorded within 5-7 business days of the webinar. All attendees will be prompted to download a certificate of completion at the end of the survey.

Speakers

Jim Rains, FAIA is the owner of Rains Studio.  His firm provides construction contract administration services for architects and owners on a consulting basis. Jim also serves as the Director of Materials Technologies Laboratories and Facilities at the North Carolina State University College of Design. Jim graduated from North Carolina State University with a BA in environmental design in architecture in 1980. Jim campaigned for the Construction Contract Administration KC, which was launched in 2010. In addition, he served as a co-writer of the Construction Specifications Institute’s Construction Contract Administration Practice Guide, published by J. Wiley in the spring of 2011.
