Sponsored by AEI

This session will be an intriguing and immersive review into the modern benefits, misunderstandings and certainties with decarbonization, resilience, adaptability, and sustainability in planning and design of engineered systems for future-focused health care facilities. While available technologies, code requirements, mindset and culture change and evolve, the need to anticipate the future while meeting today’s operational needs, safety, space and budget limits has not. This panel representing engineering, master planning, architecture and construction will discuss how these realities have been embraced in recent work, noting various geographic, climate, fiscal, and institutional mission influences and nuances. We will engage the audience, comparing our findings and approach to what others are seeing and doing.

March 14 | 7:00-8:00am

This session, hosted by the AIA AAH Codes and Standards committee, will be a lecture with lively discussion about the FGI required Functional Program and Safety Risk Assessment. What do you think the Functional Program (FP) is? Are you aware of the Safety Risk Assessment (SRA) components? Who is ultimately responsible for the FP and SRA content? We will explain the intent of the Functional Program and the SRA, and delve into how they should include best practices, incorporate multi-stakeholder input, and how the FP will evolve over the course of a project. The goal of the SRA is for the multidisciplinary team to be proactive and mitigate risks, creating a comprehensive project where stakeholders have ownership in the final product as they participated throughout the design. Beginning a project with the development of an FP and SRA is crucial to attaining a successful final project.
