Information and Expectations

The AIA Knowledge Communities are volunteer member-led special interest groups of the AIA national organization. They help members to connect with others who share the same passions and commitment—and develop projects that advance the profession and the collective work of the AIA.

As an AIA Knowledge Community, Project Delivery (PD) promotes the architect’s leadership role in all project delivery methods by assembling and distributing knowledge and best practices for a variety of project delivery methods, e.g. design-build (DB), integrated project deliveries (IPD), and public-private partnerships (P3). PDKC has recently focused on providing more resources and discussion on VDC, and how this is transforming the practice of architecture. 

We are currently seeking statements of qualifications from individuals who are interested in serving on the Advisory Group (AG). We have at least one (1) open position that would begin in January 2023 and end December 2027.


Characteristics of successful candidates

Members should have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the profession’s knowledge of the PDKC. All candidates should be able to serve the KC as Chair, demonstrating the experience and leadership skills needed to establish and execute strategic initiatives on behalf of the KC and its membership.  Participation in the PDKC is an excellent opportunity to grow networks within the AIA, as the PDKC participates with other Knowledge Committees on monthly calls that support collaboration among the Knowledge Committees.


Major PD initiatives include:

  • PD Symposium - Our 2022 virtual symposium focused on strategies for driving project outcomes, allocating risk, and employing software to close the gap between design, fabrication, and construction.  
  • Educational content: PDKC seeks to develop content that will support the mission; the content may be displayed via AIAU; live in-person presentations; or webinars.
  • Articles and resources: the PDKC reviews/juries, develops, expands and maintains the collected resources that are available to AIA members on the PDKC website;
  • AIA Conference on Architecture: the PDKC develops and presents a session focused on project delivery, and meets to develop our strategic plan for the coming year.



Specific expectations

  • 1 hour/month: Participate in one-hour monthly conference call
  • 2-10 hours/month (varies): Champion one of the primary initiatives and programs (and any associated project conference calls)
  • Conferences: 
    • Strong priority: Attend annual three-day AIA Knowledge Leadership Assembly, usually in August. If in-person, may be partially reimbursed. May be virtual or in-person in 2023.
      • What is this? KLA provides an opportunity for knowledge community leaders, the Board Knowledge Committee, and AIA staff to network, share knowledge and best practices, and build coalitions. This is the most critical meeting to attend.
    • Priority: Attend the annual Project Delivery Symposium, usually in March. Virtual in 2023, may return to in-person in the future. 
    • Preferred: Attend, if possible, AIA Conference on Architecture in the spring. Usually not reimbursed. In-person in San Francisco in 2023.


      Qualifications statements

      • Letter of Interest including a vision of what would you like to accomplish during your appointment
      • Resume with:
        • Professional accomplishments including contribution to, and attendance at KC events, subcommittee work, etc.
        • Skills include curriculum vitae outlining design experience, awards, publications, speaking events, knowledge sharing; what are the particular skills that you would bring to the committee that complement the existing leadership?
      • Letter of Commitment from a leader in your firm that demonstrates your firm’s commitment to supporting your involvement.
