Preservation at the Crossroads | October 29-November 2: The National Trust for Historic Preservation selected Indianapolis to host the 2013 National Preservation Conference because It is a city where landmarks and historic districts contribute powerfully to livability and economic redevelopment, a success story that will be instructive to conference attendees from throughout the U.S. The National Trust also believes the national audience can learn from the example of Indiana Landmarks, a robust statewide preservation organization. In hosting the conference, Indiana Landmarks, a nonprofit founded in 1960 as Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, aims to elevate interest in preservation throughout central Indiana and increase the skills and expertise of Hoosier attendees in saving and redeveloping significant sites, neighborhoods, and commercial districts, a “leave behind” that will pay local dividends long into the future. The National Trust partners with national, statewide and local preservation organizations, community development nonprofits, educational groups, and others with similar and complementary missions to spread a holistic preservation ethic locally and nationally.
