2021 Call for Nominations for RUDC Advisory Group

Information and Expectations

The AIA Knowledge Communities are volunteer member-led special interest groups of the AIA national organization.  They help members to connect with others who share the same passions and commitment—and develop projects that advance the profession and the collective work of the AIA.

As an AIA Knowledge Community, Regional and Urban Design Committee is a group of architects and allied professionals that focus on the quality and design of regional and urban systems. Our members practice architecture, urban design or planning in private practice, higher education or in government. The RUDC is exploring the future of cities and urbanized areas with a special emphasis on economic, social and environmental sustainability. We see cities and regions as a set of interlocking and overlapping systems that include water, air, transportation, recreation and production. 

We see ourselves as a conduit to local Regional and Urban Design Committees on the component level. We encourage all members to participate by serving on a project subcommittee or by applying to serve on the national Advisory Group (AG).

The RUDC Advisory Group is comprised of at least five members who serve for five years, after which they may choose to move into an advisory capacity. We are currently seeking statements of qualifications from individuals who are interested in serving on the Advisory Group (AG). We currently have one open position that would begin in January 2021 and end December 2025.

The RUDC works to fulfill our mission and deliver meaningful content to its 7,000 members in several areas:

• Communicate: Distribute R&UD information through AIA communications including dedicated emails, discussion forums, and AIA Architect.
• Educate: Provide R&UD content and subject matter experts to local and national conferences, and organize occasional symposia, conferences, webinars, and other events
• Connect: Provide a central resource for local R&UD committees

Duties and Expectations

• Participate in one-hour monthly conference call
• Champion one of the primary initiatives and programs (and any associated project conference calls)
• Attend, if possible, AIA Conference on Architecture each spring. Usually not reimbursed. May be virtual in 2021.
• Attend annual three-day AIA Knowledge Leadership Assembly, usually in August. Partially reimbursed. May be virtual in 2021.
• What is this? KLA provides an opportunity for knowledge community leaders, the Board Knowledge Committee, and AIA staff to network, share knowledge and best practices, and build coalitions. This is the most critical meeting to attend.
• Attend, if possible, annual fall conference. May be partially reimbursed.

Qualifications Statements:

• Letter of interest, including a vision of what would you like to accomplish during your appointment
• Resume with:
• Professional accomplishments (include contribution to, and attendance at AIA, chapter committee work, urban design awards, etc.).
• Skills - linclude curriculum vitae outlining learning environment design, awards, publications, speaking events, knowledge sharing; what are the particular skills that you would bring to the committee that complement the existing leadership.
• Letter of commitment from a leader in your firm that demonstrates your firm’s commitment to supporting your involvement.
