Healthcare Design Conference + Expo is devoted to how the design of responsibly built environments directly impacts the safety, operation, clinical outcomes, and financial success of health care facilities now and into the future. Conference sessions cover a broad range of topics, all relevant to today’s health care facilities.

A06 - AIA-AAH STERIS Student Design Charrette Mid Term Review & Critique

Saturday, November 4, 9am–12pm

This relaxed mid-term review and critique of this exciting annual event is designed to highlight the brilliance and innovation of our future healthcare architects. Student teams from Texas A&M University, Kent State University, Iowa State University, and The University of Texas at San Antonio will bring their creativity and ideas to this fun and evocative design challenge. This is a chance for professionals to meet some of the next generation of healthcare designers and give feedback on their design progress at the midpoint of the charrette.

 

A10 - AIA-AAH Next Gen Forum

Sunday, November 5, 5:30– 7:00pm

This 90-minute interactive course delves into the critical intersections of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in healthcare architecture with an interactive workshop. Facilitators and guest speakers include Yiselle Santos-Rivera, HKS, Roderic Walton, Moody Nolan, and Taft Cleveland, SmithGroup and will explore how these principles significantly influence the health of communities. Through a dynamic blend of interactive activities, compelling storytelling, and heartfelt testimonials, participants will develop a comprehensive understanding of EDI in healthcare architecture and its transformative potential.

The course aims to empower healthcare architects, designers, and professionals with the knowledge and tools to create spaces that prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion, leading to healthier, more resilient communities. By engaging in interactive activities and embracing diverse perspectives, participants will be inspired to envision and contribute to a more equitable future in healthcare architecture. 

 

A12 - AIA-AAH Update and Reception/Celebration

Sunday, November 5, 7–9pm 

Join AIA-AAH members, friends, and leaders for an update on the latest developments within AIA-AAH, followed by a relaxed evening to celebrate our 77th year, connect with old friends, and enjoy great food and refreshments. Attendees will also be able to meet and greet the talented and hard-working STERIS Student Design Charrette participants and the MillerKnoll Scholars.

 

A14 - AIA-AAH Tuttle Fellowship and GMZ Fellowship Presentation

Monday, November 6, 10:45am–12:15pm

The AIA Arthur N. Tuttle Jr. Graduate Fellowship in Health Facility Planning and Design supports graduate students to increase awareness of the needs and nature of healthcare facilities, and to advance the knowledge of planning and design for healthcare environments. The Griffin/McKahan/Zilm (GMZ) fellowship has been established by three leaders in healthcare planning and design through the Foundation for Health Environments Research to encourage research in healthcare programming and planning. This session is an opportunity to hear from recent AIA Arthur N Tuttle and GMZ fellows and learn about their inspiring and innovative work.

 

A19 - AIA-AAH STERIS Student Design Charrette Presentation

Monday, November 6, 3:30–5:30pm

This exciting annual event is organized to highlight the brilliance and innovation of our future healthcare designers. Different schools from across the country are selected for an opportunity to exhibit their creativity and ideas in an explorative and challenging design charrette. This session showcases the design concepts generated during the 48-hour Charrette held over the previous weekend. Every year this charrette proves to be expansive with different students, universities, and advisees.
