Course Description

The inequities within the architectural profession have taken center stage in recent months. This has given us a new sense of urgency to critique and examine the failings of the profession to embrace and support diversity. This program will feature prominent African American female architect Joclyn Oats, who will share her experiences within the architectural profession and her journey from student to practitioner to an educator. In an interview setting, Joclyn will help us explore issues of race and inequities within her own struggles as a professional as well as strategies she used to move forward to achieve her goals. As an educator, creative thinker, and problem solver, Joclyn will help us examine paths moving forward to mentor young architects of color and give them access to architectural paths previously closed to them.
