Post-Disaster Housing & Community Design - Best Practices
$0 | 1LU/HSW
In 2017, the American Institute of Architects declared access to housing a “fundamental right.” Yet, the effects of climate change, coupled with housing disparities, are exacerbating the impact of disasters in vulnerable communities. How can housing designers, developers and planners better engage with displaced communities while planning for a more resilient future? This case study looks at Talent Mobile Estates – an Oregon community wiped out by a wildfire in 2020 that will re-open in 2024. The redesign integrates cooperative owned factory built housing with equitable community engagement methods and modular mass timber construction. This webinar is part of a series produced by the AIA Right-to-Housing Working Group. In each episode, we ask: “What does the right to housing mean in practice?” and “How can architects contribute?”
