AIA Small Project Design (SPD) Knowledge Community supports, celebrates, and promotes small projects by engaging designers and the public.
To the Small Project Design Community,The first quarter of 2023 finds us emerging from a long winter and looking forward to longer days and the emergence of spring, and the bright future of our Knowledge Community. Over the past year, as our work lives have returned to something closer to normal, our outreach efforts have resulted in a new KC Board member, John Padilla, AIA, and Jeremy Miller, AIA, as well as valued volunteers such as Andrew Sigfrids, Assoc. AIA. At our annual meeting in February, we affirmed our mission statement, and reviewed structures of our design award and grant programs. We continue to shine a light on the value that architects bring to small projects, whether defined by scope or by budget.
AIA Small Project Design Knowledge Community supports, celebrates, and promotes small projects by engaging designers and the public.
Over the next year, in addition to our exciting awards program recognizing outstanding small projects, our focus will be in developing our resources specifically for our grant program, to increase the impact we can provide to support architects in their role serving small projects. Our awards and grants will continue to honor outstanding design that engages and inspires the community.
We hope you are making plans to join us in June at A'23 in San Francisco, where our SPD Forum will host a conversation around excellence and impact in design and acknowledge the exceptional projects that are recipients of the SPD awards program.
Happy Spring, and looking forward to seeing you in June,
Lindsay Schack, AIAChair, 2023 Small Project Design Knowledge Community
