Community Land Trusts in South and Central Florida
    1 LU | HSW

The community land trust (CLT) model is a proven model of non-profit real estate development that delivers permanently affordable housing. Attendees will explore the origins of the modern CLT model in the American Civil Rights Movement. Moderator, John Clark, AIA, will discuss the basic mechanics and economics of the CLT model in comparison to traditional development models. A moderated panel discussion of case study organizations will include Amanda Bartle, Executive Director of the South Florida Community Land Trust in Fort Lauderdale, FL and Rebecca Talbert, AIA, Board Member of the Hannibal Square Community Land Trust in Orlando, Florida. Through presentations of case study organizations and their work, the panel will analyze variations of the community land trust model in Florida across different scales of projects. By reviewing their origins and ongoing work, they will identify advocacy strategies to educate local officials and stakeholders on the implementation of local community land trusts.

The webinar is part of a series produced by the AIA Right-to-Housing Working Group. In each episode, we ask: "What does the right to housing mean in practice?" and "How can architects contribute?"
