Who we are

Communities all over the world are struggling to build effective strategies to address their key challenges, from climate change and equity to housing and revitalization. In response, the Communities by Design program brings together architects and other professional disciplines to work alongside the residents, professionals and institutions of host communities on key local issues. Every project is community-driven and includes meaningful public participation in an intensive process to match professional expertise with public values and aspirations for a place.

    In a world increasingly affected by natural disasters and the impacts of climate change, architects play a pivotal role in shaping resilient communities. Architects are not only the creators of our built environment but also the guardians of its safety. With that in mind, undergoing Safety Assessment Program (SAP) training emerges as a critical step in preparing professionals to support and rebuild communities in the aftermath of disasters.

    SAP training equips architects with the skills to swiftly assess structural damage after disasters, ensuring the safety of buildings and facilitating a quicker recovery process. Furthermore, SAP-trained architects are better positioned to integrate sustainability principles into their designs, fostering a built environment that can withstand the challenges posed by a changing climate!
