As you may know, the ACHP has convened a task force of its members to consider policy issues regarding climate change and historic properties and the role that the ACHP can play in addressing such issues. The task force has developed a draft ACHP Policy Statement on Climate Change and Historic Preservation, which is now available for public comment, and we would welcome your feedback.

While it addresses federal agency challenges and opportunities, it also speaks broadly to nonfederal parties. The document defines the scope of climate impacts and puts forward a series of recommended policy principles for addressing the issues. Effects to sacred sites and other properties significant to Indian tribes and Native Hawaiian organizations (NHOs) are highlighted, as are the disproportionate impacts of climate change on historic places in underserved communities.

In addition to making the draft available for public comment, the ACHP has scheduled consultation events to receive input from Tribal and Native Hawaiian leaders, and SHPOs and SHPO staff.

Comments on the draft can be sent to dnull@achp.gov by May 6, 2023.

This sounds like you are accepting half of the scientist's viewpoint to support a political agenda. Half of the scientists/ meteorologists I've heard in interviews are not in agreement with climate change as it is being presented.

I don't think we as Architects should become part of a divisive agenda. We can study indigenous design and learn more about how to design modern buildings that work with our environment, are sustainable and have nothing to do with rating systems, political agendas, etc.

Let's focus our energies on proven history which is plentiful to inform how we best return to sustainable, environmentally friendly design.
