This discussion will explore the theme of resiliency: How a building design/operations can create a healthier, safer facility while also being flexible to adapt to community needs as they change. During this session, we will challenge how Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles and some pillars from the Final Report of the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing may need to be revised in order to create better design solutions for today. Innovative case studies from Illinois to Texas to Arkansas will be discussed and include the St. Charles, Ill., police station and the Richardson, Texas, police headquarters—projects that attempt to strike the right balance from outside to inside with protective measures integrated into public plazas, memorial elements for community engagement and accessibility, multipurpose gathering rooms, and ample spaces designed for mental wellness and recovery.01:26:17
