On behalf of the national AIA Women's Leadership Summit, we would like to invite you to participate in the next summit being held in Kansas City, Missouri September 23-24.
The AIA Women's Leadership Summit was created in 2009 by the Boston Society of Architect's Women's Principles Roundtable as a national-level conversation to advance women in architecture and design. This initial summit held in Chicago in September of 2009 drew 160 leaders from across the country.
Similar to the 2009 summit, this year's conversation in Kansas City will again focus on advancing women in leadership positions in architecture. Friday will be devoted to a series of presentations and dialogue on Leadership; Saturday will be more focused on Design. The themes of the summit include discussions on new paths to Leadership and how Women Architects are redefining the profession through new collaborative processes and design.
Highlights of the Summit 2011:
- Focus on leadership on Friday, including an in-depth discussion about how firms of different sizes and disciplines define success, with leaders from emerging firm Studio Gang, legacy firm Sheplely Bulfinch, and multi-disciplinary international firm AECOM.
- The Saturday Design discussion will be held in the internationally-acclaimed Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art Bloch Building, designed by Steven Holl. Keynote speaker Susan Szenasy, Editor in Chief of METROPOLIS, will present a 'Design Report' on the current pulse of the industry, highlighting the firms, individuals and trends that are breaking new ground in architecture.
- Celebrate design including the work of Leers Weinzapfel Associates, the only firm founded by female principals to be designated by the AIA as "Firm of the Year."
