Course Description:
ASHRAE Standing Standard Project Committee 90.1 - which is responsible for continuous maintenance of Standard 90.1, Energy of Buildings <g class="gr_ gr_40 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="40" data-gr-id="40">except</g> Low-Rise Residential Buildings - released **Addendum av** on mitigating thermal bridges for public review. This proposed addition will change how almost every building will be built, impacting all U.S. states except seven (AL, FL, GA, HI, LA, MS, SC). Addendum av restricts how concrete, steel, and wood components - such as floor slabs, shelf angles, balconies, overhangs, fins, parapets, exposed columns, projections, and penetrations - can be detailed and built. Mitigating thermal bridges is a known methodology of saving energy. There is <g class="gr_ gr_37 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep" id="37" data-gr-id="37">concern</g> with this specific addendum, however, because this 26-page public review draft is complicated and these provisions have not been tried on any real projects in any U.S. jurisdiction. Because Standard 90.1 serves as the basis for minimum energy savings required by federal law for all states, and a compliance path for the IECC, <g class="gr_ gr_38 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep" id="38" data-gr-id="38">input</g> is needed from engineers, architects, and contractors during the public review to ensure that these requirements are technically sound, practical, and cost-effective.
