July 26, 2015 is the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Americans Institute of Architects of Dallas will be organizing a day of awareness and celebration on the benefits the ADA has had on the built environment and the disabled community. The ADA Awareness day will be on July 24th 2015. The day will begin with a proclamation by the City of Dallas Mayor proclaiming July 24th as ADA Awareness Day in the City of Dallas. The programs that are being planned will include tours of accessible buildings, guest speakers and a focus will be on how architects, architecture and the ADA work together to benefit the disabled community.

Selected architects will use a wheelchair for a day and will share their experience at a happy hour on Friday July 24th
July 24th ADA Awareness Day Program
10:00-11:30 "Beyond the Guidelines- How a facility to help the visually impaired has gone beyond the ADA requirements to make life better for all" Tour of Ligthouse for the Blind Led by Marcel Quimby, FAIA and Neval Fairchild
12:30-2:00 "Removing stumbling blocks- A perspective on how ADA has affected people with disabilities life"
Motivational speaker Walter Patterson and Proclamation at Children's Medical Center. Box Lunches will be provided. Tour of Children's Medical Center, recipient of the 2013 APA/Texas Governor;s Award" after the program
3:30-5:00 "When Design meets Accessibility"
Tour of the Perot Museum, recipient of the 2013 APA/Texas Governor's Award for Accessibility Design. Jenniffer Workman from Good Fulton and Farrell together with Kim Goss, Registered Accessibility Specialist will be leading the tour.
5:00-7:00 Happy Hour: Wheelchair for the day participants will retell their experience sitting in a wheelchair for a day. Appetizers and drinks will be served
